Exercise 16

Hi Gary, I have posted a blog on exercise 8 of your blog.
I really interested in "Automated Book Delivery System and Virtual Browse" this vedio. Because it shows us a high technology library.
When I finished this vedio, I also search some further information about this library. This amazing library named Hunt Library. Automated Book Delivery System called bookbot, which can store up to two million items in a climate-controlled environment and deliver any of them within five minutes of a click in the online catalog. It is much more different from old library systern even the internet cataloguing database.
For library clients, This system is both fascinating to watch and easy to use. It also can save time when client looking for specific items.
I believe the bookBot will help transform this 21st-century library from a storage facility into a rich environment of learning and collaborative spaces.

Thank you Gray. I learn a lot from your class. You are a wonderful teacher.

Exercise 13

changing the arrangement of my blog:
I want my blogger looks very clear and simple and can easily find information. So when I using the Layout button on the left hand side, I can drag to rearrange elements. Now I change my posts as a major part on the left hand side. For the right hand side, I put Labels, Blog Archive and Contributors.

Exercise 12

changing the colour of my blog:

First time when I start my blogger, my blogger just simple and blank. After I go to template section, there are several different backgrounds or themes I can change. I try pink one and the picture window one, they all good. Looks clear and beautiful. Finally I choose this one because the background looks like in a library, I like it.

Exercise 11

This is the url of the homepage of city of Sydney library:

Under Collections section is local history section. We can find that Books on the general history of Sydney are available for loan from all library branches. But specific local history collections are kept at other branches eg. the Glebe, Kings Cross, Newtown, Surry Hills and Waterloo libraries. As well as books, the collections feature clippings and other materials relating to the colourful residents, notable buildings and defining moments of each area. Items in these collections are not available for loan.
Under Programs and events, there is section about Kids and teens. This library regularly hold special events just for kids and teens, including Youth Week celebrations.

And  PlayStation 2 is now available every day from 3pm at the Customs House Library. Come in and check out the latest games for free. The games are changed weekly and are all rated G or PG. All gamers must follow library rules.

There are  reference and special collections section.

Library members can search their online catalogue for reference books, which are not available for loan. To access these reference books, you'll need to visit the library branch where the title is held. Members can also use the library's database tools, which includes a range of reference products including newspaper archives and encyclopaedias.

Web link to 2.0 library services on face book for City of Sydney libraries Australia:
We can find follow us at the bottom of website. And this library provide many social media links like face book, twitter, Instagram,  Google+ and you tube.

Exercise 10

In an online environment, this takes the form of feedback, user reviews, and user-crafted social networks. Sites as diverse as Amazon, Flickr, MySpace, Facebook, and Wikipedia all depend on high levels of user participation to expand the value of the product. Blogs and wikis are other ways to engage customers and push fresh content to users. As we discuss about in the 5 library service areas as below:
1 ,Local studies
The local studies collections of public libraries play an important role in their
communities. While larger state and national institutions hold historical material of
national importance, local studies collections can provide a more detailed sense of a
community’s past. (2010, pp. 3) believes the information collected by local
studies collections becomes the “cultural and historical memory of the city”.
Local studies collections will continue to be important to the communities they serve,
so librarians need to put measures in place to ensure their collections are expanding
and representing the full spectrum of their community (Heap & Pymm, 2009, pp. 14-
15)
2, Children’s section
The Children’s section at Leichhardt Library has a blog called Shelveit. This blog provides a lot information such as : the events in the library, what is the programs?, what they do at the library. They leave a preview and you can respond with a review. They have world book on line and you can leave a tweet, facebook, youtube, linkedin through the library.
3 ,The Youth/ Teenage
The youth/ Teenage section also have the blog or the Facebook link for the library, so they can share the idea, photos and what the favor book they just have or some ideas about the books. And also through this blog or face book they can make friend and increase the social life. Some of library also has the website database for the teenage to share the skill they really confidence or communicate window. Most of these sites you can leave a post eg. Beyond blue has an online forum. Some of the databases have a blog and are connected to tweeter, Facebook, and Pinterest.
4 ,Adult Fiction section
For my point of view, adult fiction may little use the 2.0 technologies, because most of adult like to read the book rather than use the internet (just for over 35 ages). Most of older adult not really can accept the new technical, and also they more like communicate by the phone or message.
5 ,Information/reference
The heart of Library 2.0 is user-centered change. It is a model for library service that encourages constant and purposeful change, inviting user participation in the creation of both the physical and the virtual services they want, supported by consistently evaluating services. It also attempts to reach new users and better serve current ones through improved customer-driven offerings. Each component by itself is a step toward better serving our users; however, it is through the combined implementation of all of these that we can reach Library 2.0. Many libraries have made encouraging advances in their electronic offerings by providing access to top-quality databases, downloadable audiobooks and music, and instant messaging reference services. Liarary 2.0 can really help customer to find the information they need and also reference.

    Exercise 6

Nowadays, Social bookmarking like reviews is considered to be a very powerful tool in the promotion of a website especially for library website.People can usually view these book reviews in a chronological order. These can be viewed by tags or categories or via the search engine.
If you are looking for a specific by library catalogue, you can choose the best book by going though reviews. If you are looking for a child fiction for kids, a good book review may give you some good idea. It is very helpful for readers.
I think library staff need manage the social bookmarking section, delete some advertisement under book reviews.

    Exercise 5

    Establishing Facebook is free, allows the reader to know the latest news relating to libraries, new announcements and social activities, as long as the library content is updated regularly, readers will be able to keep abreast of the latest news in library;
If readers have any ideas or feedback, they can through the library Facebook to let library know. And then library can also know the needs of readers and get feedback immediately. This is one of the best ways to improve the services. And also Facebook can also improve library’s visibility.

Exercise 3 : Photo sharing and Flickr

This picture named "Dublin City Library & Archive - facade" upload by Dublin City Public Libraries on 27th January 2007.
From Flickr I get some information about this library:
The building was reopened in 2003 following a restoration and major refurbishment and new build. The brief called for maintaining the architectural integrity of the original intact main building while redeveloping the rear section to cater for the more functionally demanding uses.
The library was originally funded by the Carnegie United Kingdom Trust (this allocated funds donated by Andrew Carnegie 1835 – 1919 a Scottish / American Industrialist, who funded sixty-six libraries in Ireland, and approximately 2,500 throughout the World).
    Opened 1 April 1909
    Architect: C.J. McCarthy.
And address: 138 -144 Pearse Street, Dublin 2, Ireland.
